A new limited edition of Rolex Sea-Dweller watches with reference 16600 has been produced to celebrate the golden jubilee of the State Plice Scuba Divers Institution. The production of only 78 pieces, makes it one of the most desirable and rare versions for collectors throughout the world. On the dial, the logo of the Department, and on the outer case back as well as the word Rolex also the writing POLIZIA DI STATO SOMMOZZATORI 1958-2008 is engraved.
We note that Sea-Dweller watches, ref. 16600, even from latest production do not have the engraving on the inside of the carrure: the characteristic and exclusive rehaut.
The Sea-Dwellerexamples manufactured for the Scuba Divers of the State Police are only 78, and among these, 28 have the case back engraved with the number of the Military Brevet, the document which gives scuba divers the qualification for practicing the profession, and only 3 of them have a personalized signature. The scuba divers work in deep seas, and the Sea-Dweller is the divers watch par excellence, the precise and reliable instrument for every “great depth professional”.
The Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA (ᴓ 43 mm), is undoubtedly the most important new timepiece introduced by Rolex at Baselworld 2008. The guaranteed waterproof reaches 3,900 meters thanks to an innovative system, patented by Rolex, namely the Ringlock System. Practically, waterproofing improves from 1,220 meters (4,000 feet) of the ref. 16600, to the current 3,900 (12,800 feet): the depth rating is greatly increased, even tripled.
On the official Rolex website, we can read:
